The alarm was blaring, making your ears ring as you weaved your way through the hallways, the screams and panicked crowd noises causing your heart to thump in your chest. The adrenaline of this moment had you gripping your gun tightly, glancing between all the guys as Stonewell led you to the cause of this disaster.

“When we get to his office, I’m going to punch in the code. Be ready to jump in and fire.” Stonewell murmured as all of you ran down to the end of a hallway, the very hallway that you had gone through only about a week ago, hoping to find out information. The ominous red flashed all around you, the alarm screeching, the atmosphere creating an immense pressure that felt suffocating.

This situation… was insane.

You could feel the anxiety welling inside you, the fear of not knowing what was going to come. Your hands began to tremble. Your knees began to weaken. You felt the hallway grow longer, almost as if the door at the end were miles away, instead of the few yards that it actually was. You felt your heart race when your mind flashed the thought, ‘I could die here. I could die here, in this hallway. I could die alone.’

The mantra raced through your head, your mouth drying up as you thought of that dream you had had almost two months ago. All the guys dying in a fire, Max included. Those images plagued your mind until you couldn’t feel yourself moving.

Why weren’t you moving?

You needed to move.

MOVE!

You stood there in the hallway, paralyzed. ‘We’re going to die here. That fire is going to kill everyone. We can’t do this. There’s only six of us. We’re going to die like in my dream.’

“[Name]...”

‘We’re going to die.’

“[Name]...!"

‘It’s useless.’

“[NAME]!!”

You felt your shoulders shake roughly as you were brought back to the reality of the situation.

Evander was holding you by the shoulder, his eyes staring into yours as you blinked, focusing once again.

“While I like the idea of standing around, that’s not an option. Get your head out of the clouds and focus on now. We need all the attack power we can get and your some of the best there is.” Evander said, letting go of your shoulder in order to motion to the other guys. “We all need you with us and thinking those thoughts of yours isn’t going to help.”

“Yeah, [Name]. You’re the reason we’ve gotten this far, we need to you to get us just a bit farther.” Ayjaye’s voice piped up, his eyes shining with resolve.

“We need to do this for everyone that couldn’t.” Garrett agreed, his eyes saddened yet determined.

“We have to get out of here and create our own lives.” Brett stated, his arms crossed.

Staring at everyone, your mind began to clear. These people were with you from the start. When you didn’t have anyone, they appeared out of nowhere and helped you survive. You had even found love with one of them. So why were you panicking when you were being supported so unconditionally?

Nodding with a newfound sense of justice, you quickly gripped your gun tightly and began to run towards the end of the hall.

Everyone quickly following behind, the door was finally reached. Punching in the code, the door slid open and everyone jumped in. No one was in the laboratory. Quickly going to the office where you found the files on the tenants, you quietly opened the door. Only to find that nobody was there either.

Nodding at each of them, you all piled up against the walls next to the Xavier’s office door, ready to pounce as soon as the door clicked open.

Stonewell counted as you all readied for your attack.

“3…”

You took the safety off of your gun.

“2…”

You glanced around at the guys who all nodded at you.

“1…”

You inhaled slowly, exhaling all of your anxiety.

“NOW!”

You jumped up as the door was kicked open, spotting the first guard and aiming for his head.

The sound of the gun went off, sending the guard poised to attack to the floor, a clean bullet wound in his forehead. Quickly coming in after you, Brent fired two shots at the next two guards, cleanly shooting them in the chest. Garrett ran in and threw a knife at the next guard, spearing him through the throat, blood gushing from his wound as his gargling died down to silence.

Finally being able to stop and look around, you saw Xavier sitting behind his desk, two more guards poised to attack next to him. Rushing footsteps alarmed you and you quickly turned around to see Buchanen and his men coming in behind you.

“[Name]. I thought we had an agreement.” Xavier said, standing and bracing himself on the desk in front of him.

“Yes, well not all agreements can be kept, right?” You said, lifting your gun and cocking it.

“Put the gun down!” Buchanen shouted behind you, his gun pointed clearly at you. Evander quickly aimed two of his hand guns at Buchanen’s head, causing the man to slightly flinch but hold his fire.

“You know I could easily kill your friends, yes? I already warned you. I injected you and them with the viru-” Xavier started.

“No you didn’t.” You said confidently, gun still poised.

Xavier’s smile faltered. “You figured it out.” He stated.

“Yes. A girl can only hear so many of these lovely confessions before she realizes a man wouldn’t do that kind of thing to her.” You said, smirking slightly as the smile was completely erased from his face.

“Yes, I suppose so. But I still have the completed serum.” He stated, quickly whipping out a vial from his jacket pocket and uncorking it. “A sip of this and I’ll become super human. I’ll be able to administer the virus to everyone.” Xavier’s voice was proud, yet still reserved. Staring into his eyes, you could still see the lack of resolve in them.

“Xavier, you don’t have to-”

“Of course I have to! My father spent years making this virus! He died because of his research! I have to do this!” Xavier abruptly shouted, glaring daggers.

“No, you don’t. This… this terrible thing your father created. It isn’t what you want to continue. You don’t want this. I can see it. I can see that you don’t want to become the monster your father was.” You spoke calmly, lowering your gun slightly to reduce the pressure.

“But… I…” Xavier was at a loss. The vial was still held in his hand, but he wasn’t sure what to do anymore. Should he follow in his father’s footsteps? Or listen to you?

“I don’t… I… Should I….” He continued to mutter, staring at the vial.

“OH FOR FUCK’S SAKE!” Buchanen’s voice rang out. Spinning around, you saw him sprint at Xavier and wrestle with him for the vial.

“If you’re not going to take advantage of this, I will!” He shouted, punching Xavier in the jaw, sending him sprawling to the ground.

“BUCHANEN! PUT IT DOWN.” shouted Stonewell, his voice deep with anger and his gun pointed at Buchanen.

“Are you stupid? This is my chance! I've listened to that twerp for years. Now I have the power! Look at this vial! This vial can make me GOD!” Buchanen bellowed before moving to swallow the contents of the vial.

Only for you to shoot.

You quickly pressed the trigger, aiming at his hand. But you miscalculated the shot, hitting Buchanen in the throat. Dropping the vial and it’s contents, Buchanen wrapped a hand around his neck, hoping to stop the flow.

Only for the pipe behind him to explode, engulfing his body in flames.

All you could hear was screaming. Who was screaming?

Oh.

You were.

The pipes behind Buchanen were gas pipes used to light the stoves and control the heaters. But now, they were causing the destruction of this place. Your bullet had gone clear through Buchanen's throat and hit the gas pipe. The fire quickly spread, swallowing half of the office in flames.

Just like your nightmare.

Quickly whirling around, everyone fled the room as smoke rapidly spread throughout the room. Escaping the office, you made it to the lab. Leaving the lab behind you, you ran through the hallway. An explosion sent a blast of force at your back, sending you flying forwards onto the floor.

“[Name]!”

Looking up, you stared at who was offering you their hand.

The person that had been with you through everything.

Reaching to take their hand, you couldn’t help but feel thankful for…

Garrett

Ayjaye

Evander
